Since I’m not taking a lot of clients here in Virginia (I live pretty much out in the middle of nowhere, which means that I’m an hour away from a Target), I’ve been working on playing with makeup on myself. Here’s just a taste of what I’ve been up to. I’ll be updating more on Instagram @Maddybirdmakeup.
Ah! I can’t believe it’s been a year since I updated my blog. It’s been a busy year, guys. I’ve moved to Virginia to finish the English degree that I started in California, and I’m loving the fall season here. So many colors! It’s a photographer’s dream. I’ll be home to Sacramento for Christmas for almost a month. And who knows? Maybe I’ll be able to come back for a little bit in the summer, but I’m working hard to finish this degree in a timely manner, so I’m busting through classes and taking on heavy loads, which is why I won’t be blogging a ton.
I’ll be working on keeping you up to date on new techniques and products I try on a college girl’s budget on my Instagram account. Follow me @maddybirdmakeup!
One last thing: sorry to lump all these pictures together, but in the stress of moving my whole life literally across the country, I wasn’t the best at recording client names or dates. As that information becomes clearer, I will update it here.
Here ya go!
My baby cousin Sara graduated early and started college while the rest of her high school was enjoying Christmas break. Atta girl!
I collaborated with a team (who I will get links to, because you need to hire them ASAP) for this shoot. Check out those flowers!
Worked with Morgan Werner Photography to create some beautiful senior pictures for some beautiful girls…
Goofed around…
Helped these girls get ready for prom and homecoming…
Helped Kayden and Jessica with their wedding days and was ecstatic to do so…
Morgan Werner‘s assistant got married this summer and I was happy to be the makeup artist for her wedding. What a stunner! So happy that we aren’t completely losing her to the military world as her husband has yet to be stationed too far away. Congratulations Savanna and thank you to Morgan and Susanne Ashby for their photography.
Morgan Werner Photography, Love That Dress, an assortment of hair stylists, and I all met up on a muggy summer afternoon in Folsom for an advertisement shoot. Â We used Morgan’s senior spokes models and Love That Dress’s collection of beautiful designer frocks to create an ad to show a selection available for rent to high schoolers in the area. I even got a line of head shots!
I was honored to be invited to participate as a makeup artist for an editorial collective shoot. Many great makeup artists, hair stylists, and photographers from all over, including out of state, arrived in Auburn, CA to participate, learn, and collaborate, and it was so much fun. I had two models, and their pictures were taken by various photographers. This is just a small sampling of the bounty I was sent.

This girl we just straight up called “Princess Jasmine” because, well… look at her.
I get to work with photographer Megan Squires in Folsom every once in a while and have so much fun every time. Megan is not only a very accomplished photographer, but also a published author of young adult and new adult literature. On top of doing all the work of writing and publishing a novel, she shoots the covers and promotes them with the gorgeous results of these shoots.
Speaking of gorgeous, check out these models! That’s right, folks. I got to do men’s makeup. I rarely get to do it and I looove it. No, not (only) because I get put my hands all over attractive men (*oh, let me just blend this a little more… still not blended enough… shoot*). I think that a lot of photographers, at least the ones that I’ve worked with the most, undervalue the benefit of some light correction makeup on dudes. Trust me, a little concealer and bronzer can take you from looking tired to looking like a model – true for both sexes.
Â
This set is from Megan’s novel Demanding Ransom, now available on Amazon!
And this is a little teaser from A Thousand Words, available early 2014!
Had a fun (and long) day with Morgan Werner Photography in Monterey, Carmel, and Big Sur for this shoot to advertise for our upcoming mini sessions. Keep an eye out for more from this location when we do the shoot this Saturday.
